Combined Thoracic Injury (CTI)
Overview
Combined Thoracic Injury is an injury assessment metric that integrates chest deflection and chest acceleration to evaluate thoracic injury risk [1]. First proposed by Eppinger et al., this approach recognizes that neither deflection nor acceleration alone sufficiently predicts injury, but their combination improves correlation with rib fractures and soft tissue trauma [1]. It is often used in regulatory and research settings to assess restraint system performance and occupant safety in frontal crashes [2].

- Filter the chest displacement (CFC = 600) and all chest accelerations (CFC = 180)
- Calculate chest resultant with the filtered signals
- Calculate maximum chest displacement
- Calculate the 3ms Clip of the resultant chest acceleration
